Firstly, my business is a way of life for me – a passion, in fact. I share it with almost two hundred other people and try my best to make it their passion too. I’m passionate because I’ve seen the business grow from a seedling, just over twenty years ago, to the size it is today. I’ve made lifelong friends along the way, have the privilege of working with staff that bring skills to the business I don’t possess, and I get to interact on a daily basis with people that bring diversity of ideas, approach and culture.
Our business is built around honesty and integrity – for our staff, our suppliers and our customers alike. We want and need long-term and harmonious relationships with all three and we are constantly adapting to meet the ever-changing nature of the task. Consequently, my door is always open if you have ideas to share that lead to positive change.
Part of the pleasure in running a successful and financially healthy business is having the resources to invest in career development when it is necessary or desirable for the company or the individual. We take the view that training and education are investments that result in better morale, job satisfaction and staff retention. I have no greater pleasure than seeing a member of staff exploit their full potential and knowing I’ve played a part in that.
I’ve alluded to the strong trading position of the business and this is of particular importance to me because job security depends largely on my stewardship of all things financial. Our profits are partly reinvested and partly retained each year to ensure we are at the cutting edge of technology and also so we can fund the peaks and ride out the troughs in trading. We enjoy a perfect credit rating with all leading rating agencies, such as Dunn & Bradstreet.
The Pen Warehouse is now the largest Trade Pen Supplier in the UK and Ireland by some margin. We have an enviable reputation for quality, service and innovation, and numerous national awards that recognise our contribution to our industry. We could not have done this without our most important asset – our staff.
