To mark 100 years since the end of the First World War, we’ve set up a commemorative soldier outside the front of our offices. The cut-out silhouette of the WW1 serviceman is surrounded by poppies and was created by the Royal British Legion to symbolise what the brave men and women of our armed forces sacrificed for us and to remember all those that were lost in the cause.
We are extremely proud to display our Silent Soldier, just as we are immensely proud of those who gave their lives for our freedom.
The Royal British Legion is a charitable organisation that helps veterans of the armed forces, as well as current members and their families. It is most famous for its Poppy Appeal which raises money to support valuable work throughout the year. The poppy has become a symbol of remembrance for those who died in the 1914-18 conflict, inspired by the poem ‘In Flanders Field’ which refers to poppies growing in the earth atop soldiers’ graves in Belgium.
