The Impact of Printing on Education

The oldest example of a school textbook dates from 4,000 years ago and was used for maths instruction in Sumer (now in southern Iraq) where the first writing system known as cuneiform was developed. Prior to the development of writing systems, schooling consisted of the wisest members of a community orally sharing their knowledge with the young.
