Who Benefits From Promotional Cornstarch Pens?

Posted on on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 at 3:25 pm.

The world’s landfills are full to capacity with waste plastics and other harmful products.

When I was at university I studied in Germany for two years. I used to laugh at how obsessed the German students were about the ecology and recycling. Growing up in America I saw nothing wrong with throwing things away when I was finished with them and certainly did not recycle.

The US is still responsible for 30% of the worlds material waste. If every country discarded waste at a similar rate, we would need five worlds to store it all. Unfortunately we still only have one.

Now living in the UK I have noticed that the British often have the same view about recycling and waste. Recent studies have shown the over 27m tonnes of waste is thrown away in the UK every year. Compare that to Germany which has a population 25% bigger than the UK but only disposes of 10m tonnes of material waste per year and you can see how much work still needs to be done.

People love stuff. We collect it, use it and then throw it away when we are finished with it. Many businesses marketers understand the problems we face and are trying to do something about it. They put sound eco friendly policies in place and then need a means of promoting this to their employees and customers.

This is one reason why promotional biodegradable cornstarch pens are the new craze! Businesses eager to show that they are ecologically aware and concerned about out global environment are increasingly turning to biodegradable promotional products manufactured from Mater-Bi®.

Mater-Bi® is a product manufactured from renewable raw materials such as non-genetically modified corn starch. It is supplied in a granular form that can be processed into a plastic-like substance that looks, feels and can be used just like plastic. It can be used for food packaging, toys, one use cups and of course promotional pens.

Your customers can use the promotional pens you send them and then dispose of them knowing that when they go to the landfill they will naturally decompose.

When you think about the possibilities it is really amazing! We can now grow corn and other vegetables, process them into a plastic, use them and then throw them away knowing that when they are discarded they will decompose and become compost again.

So who does benefit from the use of such products? I think you know the answer. We all do.

Have you used promotional cornstarch pens in your marketing? If not, would you like to see a sample or two? Just ask and be sure to leave a comment if you have any thoughts or experiences you would like to share.
